It was a fantastic drive from Oscar Piastri on Sunday, gaining 10 positions and crossing the finish line in seventh at the Singapore Grand Prix.

At the Marina Bay Street Circuit, both McLaren’s did an incredible job and gained great points for their team with Lando Norris in second and Oscar Piastri in seventh place. Piastri was unlucky to be out in Q1 after Stroll’s crash in Saturday’s qualifying, yet he still did a cracking race and completed it successfully in seventh to see the chequered flag after gaining ten places throughout the race.
A combination of a good start, great work in the pits and excellent tyre management helped the Melbourne-born driver to strong points. Speaking post-race, he stated he was quite happy with it.
“I’m very happy to get back into the points and with good points as well. First Singapore done and dusted, so that wasn’t the most straightforward of weekends but to finish P7 at the end of it, I’m very happy. Obviously happy for the team with another podium as well.”
The Australian driver was asked if he could have been on the podium with his teammate if he hadn’t been unlucky with a red flag in qualifying yesterday. Piastri believes nothing more than P6 was likely as the two McLarens had different cars and the track was a tough one.
“You know, track positions are so tough around here and obviously we’ve got different cars this weekend so it would have been a very good result if I could have kept with Lando with that in consideration, but I think realistically, P6 in front of Gasly is probably the most we could have done.”
Piastri also expressed his excitement about seeing how the updates operate on his car at the iconic Suzuka circuit next week. Norris looked incredibly strong with the updated package in Singapore, narrowly missing out on the win.
“Definitely looking forward to it. Anytime the team tells you that putting faster parts on the car, it’s always a nice feeling.”
