It was an amazing weekend for Porsche as a whole, and an almost perfect one for reigning Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein.
An up-and-down weekend
In fact, the German became the first driver in the history of Formula E to score four pole positions at the same track at the past Mexico City E-Prix. He achieved it by beating in the final Duel of the day teammate Antonio Felix Da Costa.
Ultimately throughout the span of the race the champion lost ground to his teammate. The duo was overtaken by Nissan’s Oliver Rowland. The first time race winner took advantage of a perfectly timed Attack Mode at a safety car restart towards the end of the event.
In spite of having led the race for long stints with both Porsche drivers as well as with customer team Andretti’s Jake Dennis , it was not enough for the German manufacturer to secure the top spot in Mexico.
“First of all, it’s great that we have so many fans here, it’s one of my favourite races.” Had immediately said the former F1 driver.
All the emotions
Porsche’s Wehrlein was unfortunately left unsatisfied with the outcome of the first race of 2025. He especially was heartbroken to miss on yet another win in Season 11 with so few laps remaining:
“I don’t think this race went to plan. We were looking strong on energy, leading almost half of the race initially, but somehow it went out of our hands. It is what it is, I’m sure we’ll learn something from it.”
Fourth in the actual standings, he returned later on the topic, highlighting however the positives found in the complicated day:
“We finished the race on the podium with P3. I have very mixed emotions, though. On one hand I am disappointed that we didn’t win because I felt like we could have.”
The Porsche driver’s first race with Gen3Evo cars had not gone according to plan. He was involved in a huge collision at the inaugural Sao Paulo E-Prix, going airborne on the final lap of the race:
“On the other hand, I’m so happy to bounce back like this from São Paulo. The guys completely rebuilt my car, they did a fantastic job with that. We also had pole position, so very good points this weekend.” He concluded.
Porsche is definitely looking forward to the next round, a double header in Saudi Arabia at the beginning of February.
