The 2025 IndyCar grid is finally complete as Rinus VeeKay has signed for Dale Coyne Racing.
It was an inevitable announcement as a photo had leaked online on Thursday of VeeKay and Dale Coyne shaking hands after agreeing a deal.
The Dutch driver headed into the offseason with massive uncertainty hanging over him. There was widespread surprise when ECR decided to retain Christian Rasmussen over him once they agreed to sign Alexander Rossi from Arrow McLaren.
In limited machinery quite often throughout his time at Ed Carpenter Racing, VeeKay impressed. In Indy 500 qualifying, he has started on the front row multiple times.
However, his finest moment in the IndyCar series to date came at the Indianapolis road course. He brilliantly won there in 2021, taking a commanding win ahead of Romain Grosjean. The 24-year-old has been on the rostrum four times overall.
2024 was full of instability for the team with a series of driver changes. However, VeeKay and Abel represent a solid and young driver line-up for Dale Coyne Racing. It’ll be the Dutch driver’s sixth season in the series at the age of just 24.
Rinus VeeKay
“Very exciting news. I am happy to announce my partnership with Dale Coyne Racing for the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
“It makes me proud to see my name among the drivers competing in this fantastic series for a sixth consecutive year. After a difficult start to my offseason, I am delighted to end the winter with this news.”
Dale Coyne:
“We are excited about getting back to full-time drivers for 2025. The stability allows us to grow as a team, and that’s important to me.
“For that to be accomplished, having a proven veteran in one of our entries helps tremendously, and that’s one of the many reasons we have decided to go with VeeKay to complete the 2025 grid.
“We are excited for him to join the team and get started with us at the Sebring test coming up next week in preparation for the full NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.”
