Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake has officially left the scene for a new project and under a new name, starting from 2024.
Over the last few days, with the official announcement of the teams that will enter the paddock next season, there has been stories about the name under which Sauber will be presented, facilitated by the release of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 entry list. The official name seemed to have been unveiled as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber.
There has been a lot of negative feedback about the name on the internet since the official entry list was released. In a statement posted on social media on Tuesday, the team teased the following about the official name change coming on the 1st of January.
“It seems our recently released team name has been getting a lot of attention.
“While we’re not ready to unveil the final result yet, we are aware of what’s at stake. Rest assured, we’re on a mission to unleash the most exciting team identity this team has ever seen.
“Gone are the days of the short and sweet, we’re cooking up a feast”
On the strength of the curiosity raised among all who watched, and with the promise of a revolutionary design that could move the team away from the disappointing performance of the 2023 season where they finished a lowly P9 in the Constructors’ Championship, the Hinwill-based squad is set to reveal their 2024 challenger on the 5th of February according to Motorsport Italy, eight days before Scuderia Ferrari’s.
Leaving Alfa Romeo behind and embracing the new sponsor Kick, the team promises the “most exciting team identity this team has ever seen.”
Of course name changes are nothing new for Sauber. They were taken over by BMW in the past before they sold back the team to Peter Sauber in 2010. Since 2018, Alfa Romeo had an involvement in the team, becoming the title sponsor in 2019.
