19-year-old Nolan Siegel will replace Agustin Canapino at JHR for the Road America event.
It has been quite a crazy week. Theo Pourchaire faced online abuse from a section of Argentinean fans following contact with the 34-year-old during a wild race in Detroit.
As Canapino did not condemn their actions, Arrow McLaren ended their technical alliance with Juncos Hollinger Racing.
Not long before first practice on Friday afternoon, JHR confirmed the news.
Siegel raced at Long Beach for Dale Coyne Racing, as well as attempting to qualifying for the Indy 500 with them, but he missed out on the big race and got bumped.
He’s also competing in the NXT championship this year. Siegel sits P3, 44 points off championship leader Jacob Abel.
Juncos Hollinger Racing statement:
“Nolan Seigel will be running the No. 78 entry in place of Agustin Canapino, who will be taking a leave of absence for this weekend’s Xpel Grand Prix.
“The growth of online abuse and harassment resulting from the events of this week have led to a very difficult experience for Agustin, the team and the entire INDYCAR fan base, and the safety of Agustin and the rest of the competitors has to be considered first and foremost.
“Abuse, hatred, and harassment in any form is a detriment to this sport, and we must prioritize the mental and physical wellbeing of both our drivers and our competition.
“Juncos Hollinger Racing is working directly with INDYCAR to create a better community for our fans, drivers and team members, uniting to make INDYCAR a welcome sport for all.”
Brad Hollinger
“Online abuse is unacceptable, and we need to ensure that our drivers are prepared both mentally and physically when they get in the car.
“We are saddened by the events that led to this scenario.”
