Germany’s Sophia Floersch has left the HMD Motorsports Indy NXT team following just a single appearance. The 24-year-old had moved over to racing in the United States after three years in FIA Formula 3. She scored six points at Spa in 2023, her only ones during those three campaigns.
According to Feeder Series, a lack of budget is the reason for her sudden and shock departure from the team. On her Indy NXT debut at St. Pete, Sophia Floersch finished P12 as she avoided all the carnage to start the season in a solid manner.
The interest HMD Motorsports had shown in Sophia Floersch
Speaking to Pit Debrief and other media oulets a couple of months ago during Indy NXT content days ahead of the 2025 season, Floersch explained how the team showed interest and really wanted to sign her.
“And then also, obviously, HMD was really coming towards us contract-wise, really pushing for me to come here. They were super open to make it happen and to have a good relationship from the beginning onwards.
“So yeah, I’m really thankful for the trust. And we’ll hopefully have a successful 2025 together.”
HMD Motorsports statement

“The team is now actively considering driver options for the #24 car for the remaining thirteen races and upcoming test days.”
