Lance Stroll’s season has been up and down, and that rollercoaster season continued this past week at the Dutch Grand Prix. While he qualified in a respectable 8th place, a pit lane speeding penalty and losing out to Pierre Gasly at the start meant he finished in P11. While no points showed for it, he put in a decent race.
As the F1 circus descended on Monza this week, Stroll is hopefully of nabbing some points as Aston Martin looks to retain a comfortable P5 in the standings.
“A tight midfield and, you know, try and pick up a few points. It’s going to be tough as it is every week.”
The Canadian also mentioned that it’s been tough to predict what other teams will bring week to week, meaning the pecking order can change, along with the usual variance in track characteristics.
“Yeah, I think it’s track dependent and everyone’s trying to bring as many upgrades as possible every week. So, you know, that makes it a very tight midfield.”
Stroll, however, is disappointed in the way that Aston Martin has not been fighting for podiums as they did last year.
“Yeah, it’s not where we want to be at the moment. We want to be back up there. So we’re doing everything we can to bring performance to the car every week.”
When it comes to fighting for points the rest of the season, Stroll says that they’re dependent on upgrades and that they need to continue developping the car to bring them up the field.
“I think it depends on the weekends. And like I said, we’re trying to bring performance to the car. And hopefully the more performance to the car we bring, the more competitive we’ll be going forward for the rest of the season.”
This development starts at the new factory in Silverstone, which Stroll says is looking great.
“Yeah, it’s great. It’s really impressive. All the infrastructure is there now. I’ve seen all the buildings come up. And yeah, I mean, it’s world-class stuff.”
