Brodie Kostecki and Matthew Payne both pick up Pole positions at Qualifying for Races Four and Five at the 2026 Supercars Melbourne SuperSprint.
Kostecki bounces back at Melbourne
After a mixed run at the Sydney 500 and a bout of illness threatening to ruin his weekend, Brodie Kostecki has claimed his first Pole Position of the year. After two short practice session around Albert Park, Kostecki and James Golding edged out Broc Feeney for the front row in this afternoon’s Race Four.
With a stacked track schedule, Race Four and Five were only given twelve and eight minute qualifying respectively. But it was Blanchard Racing Team who set the pace, with Golding jumping to the top of qualifying with a 1:48.082s.
From there the times started to drop. Payne jumped to the lead from 18th before Feeney bettered him. However, it was the Dick Johnson Racing driver who kept them all at bay, with Kostecki setting a 1:47.610.
It was Ford leading the pack, securing the two front rows, while Toyota bounced back from a disappointing Sydney 500, for Chaz Mostert to sit in fifth. Anton De Pasquale is still Chevrolet’s leading man, slotting his car into seventh.
BJR’s Macauley Jones was unable to set a time in Race 4’s Qualifying after failing to get away from the dummy grid. While Premiair’s Jayden Ojeda was also rule out of qualifying after sustaining a heavy crash in Practice Two.
Payne on the hunt for race 5 Qualifying
After narrowly missing out on a front row start in Race Four, Payne was able to secure his first pole position of the season in Race Five’s Qualifying session. Making it five different pole sitters from five different races, Payne denied Kostecki by three hundredths of a second.
While it was a Toyota and Walkinshaw TWG who locked out the second row for their highest qualifying result of the year. This gives Toyota a double chance in making the podium in only their fifth outing in the Supercars Championship. With only eight minutes to set their best time, Feeney was unable to get higher than fifth, while Cooper Murray carried his Chevrolet into sixth.
Aaron Cameron made another top ten appearance after securing sixth and eighth for Races Fort and Five respectively. While his BRT teammate Golding, who only secured the front row less than 20 minutes earlier, will start Race 5 from 17th.
