Tuukka Taponen, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, enters a new phase of his career for the upcoming 2026 FIA F3 Championship with MP Motorsport. Taponen performed well in his first full season in Formula 3 last year finishing 9th in the Drivers’ Championship with three podium finishes. Speaking during a recent virtual media session attended by Pit Debrief, Taponen outlined the areas he is prioritising ahead of his sophomore campaign and how he plans to support rookie teammate Mattia Colnaghi as they prepare for another competitive year of Formula 3 racing.

Targets consistency and maximising potential on track during 2026 F3 season

When discussing the 2025 season, Taponen’s main focus for improvement is consistency and making the most out of each of his track sessions. After a strong start to last year, he acknowledged a few races where he wasn’t able to extract the maximum from his performance, a challenge he now wants to turn into strength.

“For me it’s a bit the same as Sandro [Giusti]. The consistency will be key and to try not to make mistakes. Always try and maximise the potential you have on that moment when you are at the track is the main goal for me and the thing to improve from last year. I felt like at the beginning of the season I was doing quite well, but then there were a few races that was a bit more difficult and I couldn’t really maximise the potential I had. So try to always do the best you can on the moment you are at the track.”

That mindset reflects the reality of competition in Formula 3, where qualifying positions are tightly bunched and race strategy opportunities can shift rapidly. The way that Taponen has been preparing and fine tuning his approach each session, by lessening any potential for error, and always putting his best foot forward each weekend all of that will be how he prepares for 2026 with MP Motorsport.

FDA backing and second year advantage

Alongside his own learning curve, Taponen continues to benefit from the support of the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA). The programme has guided his development since his single seater breakthrough. Now in his second full-season in F3 for the 2026 season, Taponen can rely on that continued backing. He sees it not only as a development tool, but also as an advantage over drivers entering the series for the first time.

“Yeah, they are supporting me every year more or less the same way. They are giving me a chance to prepare with their team for the race events. They are giving me some advices what to do and what to not do. For sure, as a second year driver, I will have a bit more advantage comparing to the ones that are doing first year. They are always aware of what’s going on at the track and they are always following me. They are always aware of what I’m doing and what’s going on, let’s say.”

That dual perspective combines institutional support with personal and race by race experience. It provides Taponen with a solid foundation of confidence. With a year of Formula 3 racing behind him and Academy backing secured, he enters the new season with clear improvement goals. He approaches the campaign with sharper focus and defined priorities. Instead of chasing headlines, Taponen targets steady progress. He aims to maximise performance when it matters most and build consistency into real competitive momentum during his second full season.
