Technical director Dan Fallows has left his role at Aston Martin F1.
He joined the Silverstone-based squad in April 2022 after a hugely successful time at Red Bull Racing between 2006-2021.
Aston Martin had a terrible start to 2022, but they improved the car as the season went on and missed out on P6 in the Constructors’ Championship on count back as Sauber had the best result over the season.
2023 saw the team come out with a very fast, allowing Fernando Alonso to secure 6 podiums in the first 8 rounds. He bagged another two in the Netherlands and Brazil later in the campaign.
However, as 2023 went on, the car pace generally started to drop, and they fell to P5 in the Constructors’ Championship after running P2 at one stage.
After a reasonable start to this year, Aston’s pace has completely fallen away. They have taken just 13 points since the summer break, the same as Williams in a tie for P7. Overall they remain P5.
According to a Pit Debrief source, a call was taken by Aston Martin to remove Fallows from his position because of the underwhelming performances, as well as update packages that have come through over the last year and a bit.
Ever since the strong start to last year, updates to the AMR23 and AMR24 did not improve either car as they went backwards in both campaigns.
Fallows remains part of the wider Aston Martin project but will no longer be part of the F1 project as Adrian Newey and Enrico Cardile join.
Andy Cowell, Group CEO, said:
“I would like to thank Dan for his contribution to Aston Martin Aramco in the last two years. Dan led the team to the success of the AMR23 which secured eight podiums last season.”
Dan Fallows said:
“In my time at Aston Martin, it has been a joy and a privilege to guide the technical team on their journey towards being race and championship winners.
“It is time for me to pass on the baton, but I look forward to watching the team’s future success, which I am sure will come soon.”
