The team that’s leading both the Constructors’ and the Drivers’ championships has shown again to be one step ahead of everyone today in Montmelo.

This morning FP1 ended with Max Verstappen in front of everyone and his teammate Sergio Perez right behind him. The Dutchman also was fastest in FP2, while Perez classified fourth.

Many teams, including Red Bull, brought several updates in Spain this weekend, and also for this reason Checo Perez feels confident and believes that his GP could be a good one, and it could offer him a good chance to recover from the painful Monaco GP.

“It’s been a sort of a test day, It always is in Barcelona, you know,” the Mexican told the media.

“We’re trying a lot of stuff here, because it’s always the most representative track throughout the season, it really puts the whole season together.

“Today was a good day, plenty of information for us.

“Overall, I think there’s plenty of positives to take from the day. But [we need to] pull a gear in qualifying and try to understand the tyres as well for the long run will be key to Sunday,” he said.

“It’s quite tough in the neck but obviously, it was a very short day,” he added. The penultimate corner is back to the original layout used until 2006.

“I think we will see on Sunday people resting their necks around here because it will get a bit trickier.”

Also his teammate, Max Verstappen, commented on the weekend so far.

“The car’s been a lot more fun to drive,” said the Dutchman.

“F1 cars in general feel better at high speed so for me the last two corners are much better to drive. I tried to follow a few cars to try and see, and it’s quite okay. I’m positively surprised for the overtaking.

“I think we had a very good day, the car was in a good window, and of course we need to fix some things here and there but in both the short run and long run everything looked quite good.

“From my side, I was very comfortable in the car and looking after the tyres. But I still need to look at the laptimes of the others, but from our side it was a good day,” he concluded.
