Ahead of the 2025 F2 Feature Race at the Australian Grand Prix, Victor Martins spoke to select media, including Pit Debrief, about his expectations on the race and season ahead. With the season starting in Melbourne, drivers, especially Martins, must showcase their skills and what they bring to the category this year.
Big things at stake for the weekend ahead
“I think this weekend, everyone doesn’t have any mileage on the track – everything is to zero,” Martins opened up.
The presence of experienced drivers can be intimidating for F2 rookies due to their inexperience and unfamiliarity with the track.
“We all know Formula 2 is tough,”
“The most important thing is to keep it clean, calm, collected, and be focused on the details – even more than Formula 3.” he confirmed for a Pit Debrief question.
A dash of experience fuels craving for success
2025 makes Martins a third-year veteran in the category, raising questions about his personal expectations and the goals ahead.
“I felt more pressure last year, starting in 2024, than now,
“I just feel like we are in a different place compared to where we were with ART today.”
The pressure on a junior driver in F2 is tremendous, stemming from the necessity to excel and secure one of the scarce twenty seats in Formula 1.
“We know what we are doing now. I don’t know, I feel it’s a different approach,”
“It’s my last chance. I accept it. I know it. It’s the reality. I just need to make the most out of it,” said Martins.
Facing uncertainty after leaving the Alpine Academy, the upcoming season appears to be a last chance to enter the world of Formula 1.
“I just need to keep going, keep fighting, keep pushing on the track,
“The performance will not be affected, because when I’m in the car, I can be supported by an F1 team, by whatever,
“Myself, I’m in my car alone, I drive the car alone, so the performance is the same.” he replied.
No better time to prove yourself than now
“If I’m part of a Formula 1 team or not, I need to win the title,
“It will not make any difference even if I’m with an F1 team or not.”
The Australian Grand Prix sparks excitement as focus turns to Formula 1’s future and potential driver replacements.
“I would say after being on top of all the topics, the subjects that you need to be focused on, just managing those little situations and doing the best I can in the car.”
