Pascal Wehrlein commemorated his 100th Formula E start with victory in the Jeddah E-Prix after what he described as a “perfect race.” The German remains untouchable at the top of the championship table, six points clear of Mahindra’s Eduoardo Mortara.

A century of Formula E races for Wehrlein

Wehrlein has very quickly become a forefront figure in Formula E. The Jeddah E-Prix was his 9th win in what has been an illustrious career spanning eight seasons.

Starting his racing career at Mahindra, the German settled into the series with ease. A podium in just his third race hihglighted his talent.

After Season 6, Wehrlein opted to jump ship to Tag Heuer Porsche for Season 7, a move that would prove pivotal.

Lining up second on debut for the German manufacturer already had heads turning. It would only take four races before the German driver was back on the podium A third-place finish in Rome kickstarted the German’s illustrious career at the German manufacturer.

It wouldn’t be until Season 8 though that Wehrlein claimed his first victory in Mexico City. The high altitude track would continue to deliver glory as the German would go on to claim podiums there for the following three seasons.

Season 10 saw Wehrlein add his name to the list of Formula E world champions with a dominant season.

Now, in the new GEN 3 Evo Era, Wehrlein finds himself in a position that few drivers find themselves in. The German has the chance to add himself to an even more illustrious list of two-time Formula E world champions.

Jeddah E-Prix delivers a fitting century celebration

Jeddah has always been a happy hunting ground for Wehrlein in Formula E and he proved it again as he celebrated a century of starts.

Having started third on the grid, Wehrlein gradually moved himself towards the front of the field just before the mandatory pit stops and maintained the lead after.

A confident display saw the German come home 2.9 seconds clear to claim his first win of the season.

Victory in Jeddah sees Wehrlein move six points clear at the top of the Formula E driver’s standings. Elsewhere, Porsche extend their advantage at the top of the Team’s championship after Wehrlein’s win and teammate Nico Muller’s fourth place finish.

“A very strong result for the factory team today,” said Team Principal Florian Modlinger.

“First win of the season with Pascal, which was achieved in an impressive way. It was a demonstration of his speed all day. Only in qualifying in the semi-final duel was there a little hiccup but the pace he showed in the race was impressive.”

“The performance of Pascal plus the superb strategy from the team was a key element to this win.”

Wehrlein echoed his Team Principle’s comments, describing Jeddah as “a perfect race.”

“It is a very nice win today and a nice way to celebrate my 100th race in Formula E. “It was a perfect race, I had a lot of fun,” said Wehrlein.

“We waited a bit with the Pit Boost and then also the Attack Mode but it was the right strategy. I just tried to extend the lead. In the end, I could just manage the pace.”

“I had good fights, pretty tough ones, especially at the start, but we came through. Big thank you to the team for the car they gave me and the perfect strategy. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season.”
