Reigning World Champion Pascal Wehrlein delivered a stunning drive to win the Miami E-Prix, with teammate António Félix da Costa securing third in a dramatic and strategy-heavy race. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team’s double podium performance puts them back at the top of the Teams’ standings.
A touch of luck for Wehrlein during the Miami E-Prix
Starting ninth, Wehrlein fought his way through the field, eventually benefiting from a well-timed Safety Car period and claiming victory along with the bonus point for the fastest lap.
“What a crazy race!” he said. “Qualifying didn’t go to plan with P9 when I was unlucky again with dirt on track after two purple sectors, but watching the race unfold and knowing what happened in the race I think we were both good for the podium. We had a very good strategy but in the end also luck to finish first. I’m very happy, it’s a good result for the team.”
Wehrlein elaborated on the challenge of the Miami circuit, which took a toll on both the cars and the drivers. “Yeah, it’s not an easy track, especially for the car. It’s destroying the car quite a lot, going into the banking in the last corner,” he explained.
“The layout of the track allows to go a bit off track in some places. It puts a lot of dirt on track. That’s what happened to me in qualifying. Just the car I had went super wide in one corner, put all the dirt on track and ruined my lap. I was purple otherwise up to then.”
Wehrlein enjoys the “challenge of the street circuit”
“I enjoyed the challenge of the street circuit and of the risk and the reward of being very precise and close to the walls. If you overdo it, it’s done. I don’t like it if you can take basically too much risk, and you ruin someone else’s lap, for example.”

“The race was super tricky. We knew that there’s a lot of energy saving required on this track. But then on top you had this other thing, which is the dirt. Sometimes I just didn’t see anything on the exit. It was full of dust.”
Wehrlein also addressed the dramatic final moments, where Norman Nato briefly passed him at the line.
“My team told me already the lap before that the three cars behind are on another lap of attack mode, but they need to slow down something like 30 seconds,” he said. “Don’t make any silly things. Still, I tried to defend my position and I wanted to finish first over the line, but it was not possible.”
“I didn’t have enough traction and power out of the last corner, so he got me on the run to the line. But yeah, the outcome would have been the same.”
Porsche power floods the Miami E-Prix top ten
Porsche’s performance in Miami wasn’t limited to its factory team. Nico Müller of Andretti Formula E, also using the Porsche 99X Electric, finished fourth after leading briefly. His teammate and former champion Jake Dennis came home ninth, while Cupra Kiro’s Dan Ticktum ended seventh. In total, five Porsche-powered cars finished inside the top ten, showcasing the strength and efficiency of the Stuttgart-built powertrain.
The Miami win was Porsche Motorsport’s third major Florida victory in just eleven weeks. The German marque had already claimed top honours at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring with its Porsche Penske Motorsport programme, making this E-Prix triumph the cherry on top of a dominant start to 2025.

Florian Modlinger, Director of Factory Motorsport Formula E, reflected on the day, saying, “An amazing double podium here in Miami on a very cool track.”
“After a great result in qualifying with António in P3 and Pascal in P9 we are really happy with the win and the podium. You could see how strong António was when he took the six-minute attack mode, but then the safety car came out and compromised his race.”
“I think as a team we managed to do our best with the circumstances. A win and P3 is a mega result and on top having three Porsche in the top four and five Porsche in the top nine is an amazing result for Porsche. We’re already looking forward to Monaco and racing again.”
Following the Miami E-Prix, Da Costa now holds second in the Drivers’ Championship, with Wehrlein close behind in third. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has retaken the lead in the Teams’ standings and heads to Monaco with momentum firmly on their side.
