Williams Racing have officially confirmed that Logan Sargeant will be staying with the team for the 2024 Formula One season.
The Floridian driver scored his first point in Formula One at the United States Grand Prix in October following post-race disqualifications, becoming the first driver from the USA to do so since Michael Andretti at the 1993 Italian Grand Prix.
Sargeant certainly showed he has talent and flashes of speed, even if he was outqualified in every single Friday or Saturday session by Alex Albon. Track limit violations, mistakes and crashes certainly cost him the opportunity to do so on a couple of occasions, with Saudi Arabia standing out.
A particularly bad spell after the summer break where he crashed or had contact at least once with another driver from Zandvoort to Suzuka looked like it could have been the end of the road for him.
However, he delivered some strong race performances from that point onwards and has been rewarded for that. Team boss James Vowles continually supported him throughout the year crucially, too.
It means every single driver who was on the grid last Sunday in Abu Dhabi will start the 2024 season in Bahrain. That’s the first time in F1 history it’s happened.
Can Sargeant improve on the 0-22 qualifying head-to-head and 1-27 in points battle against Alex Albon? Time will tell.
James Vowles, Team Principal, Williams Racing: “I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season. Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.”
Logan Sargeant: “I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season. It has been an incredible journey with the team so far, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group. We have exciting plans for the future, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success in the coming year.”
