Kelvin van der Linde is set to return to Formula E, driving for ABT CUPRA in the upcoming Berlin E-Prix. This opportunity comes as Nico Mueller will be fulfilling commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship on the same weekend. Scheduled for the 11th and 12th of May, Rounds 9 & 10 of the season will see van der Linde back behind the wheel, reigniting his role from the start of Season 9 when he temporarily replaced Robin Frijns.

Van der Linde, originally from South Africa, is not new to the high stakes of Formula E, having stepped in admirably earlier in the season when Frijns was sidelined due to a hand injury. His familiarity with both the team and the current racecar dynamics makes him a reliable choice for ABT CUPRA. Thomas Biermaier, CEO and Team Principal of ABT expressed both regret over Mueller’s absence and confidence in van der Linde’s capabilities. “Nico is in extremely strong form at the moment, so of course it hurts a bit to be without him for two races. However, we are fortunate to have Kelvin, who has already shown his mettle with us this season,” said Biermaier.

The Berlin E-Prix isn’t just another race for van der Linde; it’s part of a packed schedule that includes competing in the DTM and driving the ABT Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 at the Nuerburgring Nordschleife—all within a month. This diversity in racing disciplines showcases van der Linde’s versatility and passion for motorsports.

Looking forward to the event, van der Linde shared his enthusiasm about returning to the electric street racing series: “I am really looking forward to my comeback in Formula E, especially to the many fans and the special location in Berlin. I’ve been preparing intensively, spending many hours in the simulator and attending Formula E events to stay sharp.”

Despite the challenges of adapting to different vehicles, van der Linde remains unfazed and eager to contribute to ABT CUPRA’s aspirations in Formula E.

“My goal is to play my part in the team’s upward trend and maybe even pull off a little surprise,” he added, highlighting his ambition and readiness for the competitive races ahead.

With his return, van der Linde not only aims to prove his mettle in the arena of Formula E but also to embrace the whirlwind of activities that define his career. His ability to seamlessly transition between various racing formats speaks volumes of his adaptability and commitment to his craft—a true racer at heart.
