Scuderia Ferrari is the first team to announce the launch of their 2025 car. The successor of the SF-24 will be revealed on February 19th in Fiorano. This is one day after the joint launch in London, held to celebrate Formula 1’s 75th birthday. During this event the new liveries will be launched on show cars, rather than the actual cars that will hit the track during pre-season testing in Bahrain a little over a week later.

According to Ferrari F1 team principal Fred Vasseur the car will use just 1% of the parts of the SF-24, thus rendering the car 99% new as the launch will reveal more about the Ferrari challenger this year. A

It’s a statement that highlights their bid to go for both world titles in 2025. Asked how many risks the Ferrari F1 squad is taking with such an approach, Vasseur answers enigmatically.

“We’ll know in Bahrain. Sometimes you don’t feel that you are taking risks and you realise a bit later that was very risky.

“The car will be a completely new one. I think we have something less than 1% of the common parts that we will carry over. It’s a different project, but it’s true for everybody.”

No public run for Hamilton

Given the anticipation on his Ferrari debut and busy pre-season programme, Vasseur tries to keep Lewis Hamilton out of the spotlights as much as possible. So no big public appearance of the seven-time world champion prior to testing is expected.

“No, we have to be focused on the season,” Vasseur explains. “It will be a very tight period between the first day and launch, it’s a matter of weeks, and I want to have everybody focus on performance.

“We will have the launch of the championship, we will have the launch of the car. For me, it’s already two events, and it’s far too much. It’s far enough. I want to be focused on development performance and not to do the show.”

Ferrari looking to be favourites

Coming just 14 points shy of the 2024 Constructors’ Championship Ferrari is looking to be the favourites going into 2025. Vasseur isn’t ready to embrace the favourites role yet, despite scoring most of all teams in the second half of last season.

“I don’t care because you can be the favourite in January, February, if you are not there on the first race everybody will forget this.

“I think that the fight between the top four…I think it’s changing from race to race, from perhaps track to track, compound to compound, or temperature to temperature.

“It means that every single parameter is making a huge difference. When you have four teams and it’s one or two tenths, the fact that we were in a good shape in November won’t impact the result of Melbourne 2025.

“We have to start from scratch. For sure, we have a reference, but it will be a new fight, a new championship and from January I will have a look on the future and Melbourne and not what we did two months before.”
